A Guide to Chartering in Mexico

Where civilisation meets coastline, and nature unveils its most colourful secrets.

Discover Mexico: A Cultural Mosaic & Marine Wonderland Yacht Charter

Cruising Mexico by yacht means experiencing a country of extraordinary contrasts, framed by more than 9,000 kilometers of coastline across two oceans. To the west, the Pacific offers volcanic landscapes, wild surf, and whale-filled waters; to the east, the Caribbean reveals turquoise shallows, limestone cenotes, and the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef—the second largest reef system on Earth. Along the way, more than 30 UNESCO World Heritage sites connect you to the legacy of Mayan and Aztec civilizations as well as natural sanctuaries like Sian Ka’an.

Wake to the sight of gray and humpback whales breaching in the Baja Peninsula, then dive Cabo Pulmo Marine Park, a UNESCO-protected reef restored into a living underwater metropolis of bull sharks, jacks, and rays gliding over vibrant coral. Later, anchor off Cozumel to drift along coral walls alive with color, before stepping ashore to explore sun-baked Mayan temples aligned with the stars.

Evenings unfold as a celebration of Mexican culture—mezcal tastings on deck, coastal spices infused into world-class cuisine, and sunsets painting the Pacific in fiery hues. From secluded Pacific anchorages to the Caribbean’s crystalline waters, Mexico blends adventure, history, and natural wonder into one of the world’s most unforgettable yacht charter journeys.

What are the must-see destinations in Mexico?

Baja California & the Sea of Cortez

Often dubbed “the world’s aquarium,” the Sea of Cortez is renowned for its exceptional marine biodiversity. La Paz, nestled along its shores, offers authentic Mexican charm and serves as a gateway to encounters with majestic marine life, including whale sharks, dolphins, manta rays, and seasonal whale migrations. The surrounding waters are teeming with over 6,000 marine species, making it a haven for ocean enthusiasts.

Cabo Pulmo Marine Park

Cabo Pulmo Marine Park stands as a testament to successful marine conservation. Once overfished, this area has undergone a remarkable ecological recovery, now hosting over 6,000 marine species. Diving here reveals vibrant coral gardens, schools of jacks, and encounters with bull sharks and mobula rays. The park’s transformation underscores the importance of sustainable practices in preserving marine biodiversity.

Yucatán Peninsula & Riviera Maya

Snorkel Cozumel’s reefs, swim in sacred cenotes, and explore Mayan ruins at Tulum or Chichén Itzá. The Riviera Maya pairs cultural depth with vibrant nightlife, cosmopolitan dining, and high-end resorts just steps from archaeological wonders.

Puerto Vallarta & Pacific Riviera

Puerto Vallarta, with its cobblestone streets and colonial architecture, offers a blend of traditional charm and modern amenities. The nearby towns of Punta Mita and Sayulita are renowned for their surf breaks, attracting enthusiasts from around the globe. Punta Mita offers both mellow cruisers and challenging waves, while Sayulita provides a laid-back atmosphere with consistent surf year-round. Todos Santos, further along the Pacific coast, is a haven for artists and surfers alike, offering a more tranquil setting with beautiful beaches and a vibrant cultural scene.

Cultural Heartlands

Mexico City and the central highlands house Aztec and Spanish colonial legacies, from Teotihuacan’s pyramids to Oaxaca’s colorful festivals. Even from the coasts, charter itineraries can connect guests with inland wonders via seamless excursions.

What’s the weather like in Mexico?

Mexico is a year-round charter destination thanks to its tropical and subtropical climate.

  • Peak Season: November through April—this period offers the driest skies, calmest seas, excellent marine visibility, and ideal coastal cruising temperatures (mid-70s to mid-80s°F / roughly 24-30°C).
  • Shoulder Seasons: Late October, May are great times for fewer crowds and still very good conditions. Note: Pacific coast may see more warmth and occasional tropical activity.
  • Hurricane / Rainy Season: June through September brings increased heat, higher humidity, afternoon storms, and for areas in the Caribbean / Gulf side, risk of hurricanes. Keep flexible.
  • Marine Life Seasons: Whale migrations (Baja winters), whale sharks off Yucatán (summer), sea turtle nesting seasons. Reefs have better visibility in dry months.
